Moana NZ SUP are the only accredited SUP school at the Top of the South. All our instructors are experienced paddlers and all hold a minimum ISA Level 1 accreditation.  

Lessons are held in the mornings to make the most of the calmer conditions and will have you paddling independently in no time at all.

If you would have specific requests or would like to tailor a training programme to suit personal needs, such as weight loss or fitness or rehabilitation after injury or illness, we can help.

INTRODUCTION TO SUP

With a focus on safety and fun, we will teach you the skills required to start your journey into the world of SUP.  Mornings are best, with calm conditions and smaller crowds and our fully qualified SNZ/ISA accredited instructors will have you up and paddling in no time.  The session will include:

  • Introduction to boards and equipment
  • SUP safety and handling
  • Conditions and environment
  • Stance and positioning
  • Paddle technique – forward, turning, braking

INTERMEDIATE LESSON

This is for paddlers who wish to get their current skills and knowledge to the next level. If you’re looking for race training, an understanding of SUP in surf or just want to be less tired after a longer paddle? Then this improver lesson is for you.  We will take advantage of the early conditions to cover topics such as:

  • Improved technique for better efficiency
  • Foot positioning
  • SUP safety and handling
  • Advanced turning stroke (pivot turns)
  • Paddling for the conditions- Chop, wind, swell

SUP Yoga 

Join us for an hour of Yoga on Stand Up Paddle boards.  Savour the sights and sounds of early morning calm conditions and be guided through a series of playful and peaceful poses (asana) and breathing techniques (pranayama), just off shore at our Floating Studio.  During your practice you are sure to find moments of fun and laughter with the sun above and the water below.  SUP Yoga adds extra core strengthening and balance, making it a wonderful full body workout, with a peaceful and relaxing savasana to end your session.

All equipment is provided and all abilities welcome, no previous experience required. Your instructor will talk you through the safety and guide you through the moves, its awesome!!
